What is the Montessori Method?
'Our educational aim with very
young children must be to aid the spontaneous development of the mental,
spiritual and physical personality.' -Maria Montessori
Montessori is an educational method
based on the philosophy that a child learns best within a social
environment that supports his or her unique development. The academic
subjects as well as the practical life and sensorial exercises are
presented as hands-on activities, cultivating a natural desire for
learning.
The Montessori method was developed in
Italy around the turn of the century by Dr. Maria Montessori. It is now
known worldwide and well respected as a method of early childhood
education. Dr. Montessori discovered, through research and observation,
that children learn effortlessly and joyfully when presented with an
enriched environment.
The Children's House provides a
carefully prepared environment which gives each child many opportunities
for development and intellectual growth. A strong start in a child's
education can have an enormous impact in his ability to excel, his
impact on learning, and in the development of self-esteem.
